Dawukou, Ningxia: It is close to the electrode paste aggregate-a high-quality anthracite producing area, and has its own advantages in the procurement of electrode paste raw materials. Many relatively large-scale electrode paste factories have their own calcination plants. From this point of view, Ningxia electrode paste can well control the cost and quality of raw materials; but from the perspective of electrode paste formulation, Ningxia electrode paste mainly uses ordinary calcined electric calcined anthracite, and pitch is used as a binder. Only a single calcined anthracite is used as the aggregate, because anthracite has a higher electrical resistance. In order to pursue a lower resistance, the calcined coal is often roasted for a longer period of time, thus sacrificing the strength of anthracite. Therefore, many customers report that Ningxia’s anthracite is soft during use and its unit consumption is relatively high. The unit energy consumption of the silico-manganese alloy submerged arc furnace reaches 30 kg/ton of finished iron products.
Gongyi City, Henan: Gongyi’s electrode paste products have their own formulation advantages. Compared with Ningxia using a single anthracite as aggregate, Gongyi electrode paste uses anthracite and residual anode as aggregate. This formula takes into account the problem of perfect sintering of the electrode paste, and takes into account the resistance and unit consumption. The manufacturing history of electrode paste in Gongyi, Henan is relatively long, and its mature formula application is earlier than that in Ningxia. During the use of Gongyi electrode paste, according to customer feedback, the unit energy consumption of the silico-manganese alloy submerged arc furnace is as low as 22-23 kg/ton of finished iron products.
There are two major producing areas for electrode paste manufacturing in China, one is in Dawukou District, Shizuishan, Ningxia, and the other is Gongyi City, Henan Province. Because of their respective regional advantages and historical reasons, the output of electrode paste in these two places can account for more than 80% of the Chinese market demand.
In terms of price, because the price of residual anode is lower than that of calcined anthracite in Ningxia, the price of Gongyi electrode paste also has a relatively large advantage in terms of cost.
